Travel Time!

Paris, France

I'll be away for a few weeks but I hope to return with lots of pictures. I'm not sure if I'll be able to post any pictures during my trip but if I have internet service I might stop by and say hello.

Until then ciao, à bientôt!

Les Miz

Paris, France

It might be common but this was the first and only time that I've seen an older woman riding a kick scooter (une trottinette). I think the rain was spoiling her fun.

Unfortunately I clicked just after she hopped off of the scooter.

Sous la Pluie

Paris, France

This woman was prepared as she stepped out on la rue du Roi-de-Sicile in the 4th Arrondissement.

Family Circle

New Hope, Pennsylvania

I was sitting at an outside table drinking coffee at a French bakery called C'est La Vie when I noticed an unusual hole in the fence. Maybe it was the coffee, or perhaps the tarte aux citron, but I decided to get creative and take a shot through the hole. This bakery/cafe is kind of hidden down the alley from the main road. Maybe that's why they named it "C'est La Vie".

Torture Chamber

Bristol, Pennsylvania

Actually, it's a tattoo parlor. I guess it could seem like a torture chamber depending on which part of your body is being tattooed. Unfortunately, I know from experience. Thankfully, I haven't gotten a tattoo this century and I don't plan to.  :-)

Hands in the Till

Newtown, PA

This was a quick shot through a dirty window several nights ago.  You can make up your own stories as to what was going on.

Vendeur de Fruits dans la Mouffe

Paris, France  (le quartier Mouffetard)

Some people dream of going to Paris while others dream of escaping from it.

It was early March (2013) when I took this shot and the fruit seller looked like he was ready for a long vacation. He was probably dreaming of Summer in La Côte d'Azur.

Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Pierrot the cat wishes you a fun and happy weekend!  :-)

Lost in Reflection

Lambertville, New Jersey

One day while I was out photographing reflections this man appeared in the window for a split second just as I took the shot, then he disappeared.  It happened so fast that I had to check the photo afterward to make sure I really did see a face. He kind of reminds me of Rasputin.

Doylestown, Pennsylvania

                                               Better luck next time.

Fueled by Little Cupcakes

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This little boy had a cupcake in his hand and I'll wager that he had a few more in his stomach. He was running around and his mother looked exhausted. Thankfully a heavy glass door was between him and the street.    :-)

The "A" Space

New Hope, Pennsylvania

Looks like he's putting the "A" space to good use.   ;-)

Nonno's Italian Coffee Parlor

Doylestown, PA

Nonno's is a good place to relax and have a snack and some coffee.

When Little Drops Seem Big

Doylestown, PA

This little guy seemed to be enjoying the rain. I think most people grow out of the playing-in-the-rain stage of life. Maybe I will too someday, but not yet.

La traversée du pont

Paris, France

In my opinion, there is no better place to walk in the rain than Paris.

Good Riddance

Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Usually I'm not impressed by motorcycles but this all black Harley looked pretty cool.   :-)

Making Memories

Philadelphia, PA

The train was headed toward Philadelphia when this grandpa pointed out something interesting to his granddaughters. Whatever it was,
it made them very happy.

Iced Coffee at Night

Newtown, Pennsylvania

I used sit on this bench and look in front of me for something or someone to photograph. Lately I've found things inside the window more interesting. A different scene every evening.

A Little Man the Mirror

Newtown, Pennsylvania

I shot this through a window at night and I captured unwanted reflections. The boy's face in the mirror was what I was trying to capture. It's hard to do without being noticed.

Still "Lovin' it"

New Hope, Pennsylvania

Seeing this couple reminded me of the McDonald's slogan "I'm Lovin' It". They seemed to be "lovin'" their food and each other.

Woman Cave

                                                                  Oh no, I've been spotted.

Wait for it,...................................................................................................bang, there it is, the reaction.
Newtown, Pennsylvania        Believe it or not this place is next door to Ned's Cigar Store "Man Cave"

Newtown is just down the street from my house and as you can see it's a very lively place. :-) Actually it's a cute little town with historic buildings and a nice place to walk around, even if you don't smoke cigars or knit. I don't do either.

Man Cave

Newtown, PA                                                    (Ned's Cigar Store)

A few nights ago I looked into a shop window and this is what I saw.

I Got Next

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When I was young, if we wanted to play next, we would yell "I got next" to people playing basketball at the park. Then we watched and waited. That's what I thought of when I saw this guy waiting for a haircut.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Sometimes it's best to follow a determined leader.

Mr. Lucky

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The guy selling lotto tickets: "You’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

Me: "Uh, no, not today."

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

His hat says New York but the P on the Budweiser baseball cap sign stands for Philadelphia.

Broken Trees and Broken Records

Langhorne, Pennsylvania

Looking out my window I see broken trees limbs and lots of snow.
I took this picture on February 5th and since then we've had more snow. In fact, in the Philadelphia area, this winter has had the most snow since the 19th century. In contrast, my home state of California has been suffering in one of the worst droughts ever.  Thankfully, I prefer snow to droughts and heat.

A Witness to the Carnage

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania                                           Chinatown

I love to eat meat just as much as the next guy but this window display reminded me of a horror movie.  Notice the hanging ducks that are dripping into the tray of pig heads. :-)

Rêveries de Paris

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A man daydreaming of far away places at Profi's Crêperie inside of the Reading Terminal Market.

Le Garçon Aux Oiseaux

Paris, France

I took this shot at La Place du Carrousel as I walked from the Louvre to the Tuileries Garden. While other children were having fun chasing away the pigeons this boy seemed to be in deep contemplative thought. His gaze was striking and I wondered what he was thinking about.

Vladimir Pinta The Music Man

Prague, Czech Republic

I saw him in Prague in 2009 and in 2013. I think he is about eighty years old and he sings, dances and plays several instruments.  You can see him and hear his music on You Tube.

Le Café

Paris, France

It will probably be a long time before I go to Paris again but at least I have pictures and good memories.

It's Snowing!

Newtown, Pennsylvania

It's snowing today and the temperature is supposed to stay below freezing for the next couple of weeks.

Welcome to the Land of Plenty

Philadelphia, Pa

After I took his picture, the man said "You took my picture while I was eating?" and I said, "Yes, that's right." Then he smiled and said, "I think it will be a funny picture" and I replied, "That's what I was thinking."

Kind of Blue

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When I was trying to think of a title for this post I was listening to Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue'' album, so voilà, Kind of Blue.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Chestnut Street

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I love to walk the streets of Philadelphia with my camera in hand, looking for interesting people to photograph. It's been a few weeks since my last trip to the city but I have several photos to share. More to come.

Look! Up in the Sky!

Manhattan, New York

The title is in reference to the old Superman TV program from the 1950s, "Look! Up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!".
For me, it should be, "Look where you're walking" because I slipped on ice and hurt my neck and head. I still like cold weather but I have to remember to be careful because I'm not Superman. :-)
