Merry Christmas!

Have a great day!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I didn't know what to get you for Christmas, so I'll wish you a very Merry Christmas and let Santa Claus take it from there.

I found him in Philadelphia out of uniform. Serendipitously the buildings in the background happened to be red and green. :-)

Il Servizio Fotografico

Venice, Italy

I prefer candid photos to posed photos. I guess this is a mix of both since she was posing for him and neither one of them noticed me.

New York Halal Hotdogs

Manhattan, New York

A vendor sells halal food, hotdogs, pretzels, etc. in NYC on a chilly November evening.

I've seen lots of crêpe vendors (des vendeurs de crêpes) on the streets of Paris but New York takes it to a new level with their halal-hotdog carts that seem to be everywhere. I know the hotdog carts have been around for years, but I think the halal part is something relatively new.

New York Taxi Secrets

Manhattan, New York

A New York cliché? Yeah, probably, but it's hard not to photograph taxis in NYC because they are everywhere.  : -)

Blair Hall

Princeton, New Jersey

Princeton University is a nice place to walk around, especially if you have a camera. It's one of the oldest universities in the country (founded in 1746) and has lots of interesting buildings, statues and even a small museum with world-class art.

Autumn Fishing

Langhorne, Pennsylvania

Core Creek Park is near our new place. Lake Luxembourg is in the park and in a few months it will freeze and people will start ice fishing. I don't fish but I love to walk around the lake and take pictures.

A House on Pennsylvania Avenue

Washington D.C.                                  The South Lawn of The White House.

A postcard from the road trip.

The White House is located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., but our new apartment is located about 170 miles North in the State of Pennsylvania. : -)

It might seem strange that I've been to the capitals of England, France, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and even Fiji but this was the first time I've been to the capital city of my own country. On the same note, I've been to several U.S. state capitals but never to my home state's capital (Sacramento, California).

We are getting settled in our new place and I look forward to catching-up on my blogging.

See you soon.

On the Move Again

                                                (Bull's Island State Park)
Goodbye Texas.
After lots of preparation we're moving again. Yes I know we move a lot. :-) We are going to have some time to explore and take pictures along the way to our final destination. Stay tuned for some photos from the road.

Except for hopefully posting a few photos from the road I'll won't be blogging very much this month.

Boehler's Bar & Grille

San Antonio, Texas

You probably noticed that this building is really crooked. Apparently a flood in 1921 knocked it out of shape but it's still holding up after all of these years. I bet after a few drinks people don't even notice that the building is tilted.

Un Petit Coin De Parapluie

Paris, France

For some reason I love taking pictures in the rain and or snow. When the umbrellas open up I start clicking away. The young lady in the photo seems to share my enthusiasm for rain or maybe there's magic in Paris rain.

Boys Will Be Boys

Budapest, Hungary

To be honest, when I saw these boys playing on top of a 30ft (9 meters) wall I thought that they lacked God-given common sense and they probably wouldn't see their 16th birthdays. Then I remembered myself at their age. This is the type of thing that my friends and I did all of the time. I don't condone this dangerous behavior, but I do understand it.

Le Lucky

Paris, France

I was feeling lucky enough just being in Paris so I didn't want to be greedy and win the lottery too. ;-)

Look below the tabac signs at the smiling woman behind the counter. I thought I was being stealthy by taking this shot across the street.

Dans chaque vie un peu de pluie doit tomber

Paris, France                                Continuez à appuyer sur l'avant!

I was walking across  Pont Louis Philippe when I saw a man with the biggest umbrella that I'd ever seen. He probably could have used it as boat and floated down the Seine. :-)

Liebster Award

London, England

The other day I was honored to receive The Liebster Award from Malyss.  She is a blogger and a world famous connoisseur of benches, so I added a bench that she might have seen during her travels. ;-)

"Liebster" is a german word that means "sweetest", "kindest","nicest" , dearest", "beloved"," pleasant" and "valued".
It's given to bloggers with less than 200 followers to recognize their blog and to encourage them to go on blogging .

The Award came with some questions and some rules which I'm going to break, however I will answer the questions.
Malyss asked:

Your favorite color

Your favorite book
-The Bible
A dream to realise
To live in France for a year or more
Your secret passion
My answers to these questions reveal my passions but they aren't secret

The thing you'd like to do but never will
Ten years traveling around Europe
The job you would have liked to do
Rick Steve's traveling photographer :-)
Your favorite word
The movie that makes you cry
Only two movies have made me cry, The Red Balloon (when I was 7 yrs old) and  Schindler's List.
Salt or sugar ?
Both! Usually salty first then sweet
Have you a lucky charm?

A motto you like
"I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me"

Thanks Malyss!

France or Texas?

I took two of these photos in Paris, France and the other two in Dallas, Texas but they all have a French theme.  Can you guess which two photos are from Dallas?

Le Petit Héros Sur Son Autruche

Paris, France  (Jardin des Tuileries)

The little hero proudly rides home on his ostrich after imaginary battles in far away places.  Sometimes I miss being a kid but at least I still have a pretty good imagination. :-)

Mirror Mirror on a Historic Wall

(This is a mirror on the wall in the famous Café Louvre. )

Prague, Czech Republic
This is a great place to sit and talk or read while you enjoy delicious coffees/teas and pastries. After that you can wander around the historic building and see the photo gallery that has 19th and early 20th century photos of Prague.

"You have just entered the foyer of Café Louvre. This Café, bearing the name of the world’s famous gallery, has been standing here for over a century, since 1902. Among its guests were Karel Capek, Franz Kafka as well as Albert Einstein during his professorship in Prague. The Café’s life was interrupted by force in 1948 by the communist coup when all café fixtures were thrown out of the windows into Narodni Avenue. The cultural melting pot was revived in the place after 1992 when the devastated premises underwent a complete reconstruction." - From the Café Louvre website

A Glimpse of the Past

Vienna, Austria

I love those moments when it feels like I've traveled back in time. These moments are rare and fleeting so I'm glad that my camera is able to capture and preserve them.

Le Théâtre de la Vie Quotidienne

Paris, France

For me, the world is a theater and the actors don't even know they are performing. There's no need for action or drama as long as they are in the right place at the right time.

Supernatural Art

London, England (Near the Tate Modern Museum)

An incredible spectacle of lights, fog, strange music and sounds. The face on the tree moved like a living creature and there were also talking heads floating in plumes of fog. It was very creepy but fascinating at the same time.

A Sandy Serenade

London, England

The Thames river was low, so this guy made a couch out of sand and sang to the people walking by. His tip bucket filled up quickly and then he and his couch disappeared with the rising tide.

Votivkirche and Snow Reflections

Vienna, Austria (Cafe window reflections)

People must have been wondering why I was taking a picture of this window when there was such a beautiful church behind me.

While I was in Vienna I used Votiv Church as a landmark when I needed to find my way back to the apartment. It was near our apartment but believe it or not we never went inside of the church even though we walked by it everyday. I kept thinking there was plenty of time to see it tomorrow.

This post is for Weekend Reflections and The Weekend in Black and White.
