The ArnolfoTower

Florence, Italy
The Arnolfo Tower is the top part of The Palazzo Vecchio  (Old Palace) which is the town hall of Florence. It's a very impressive building that was built between 1299 and 1304. The wires strung between the buildings in this picture hold beautiful Christmas lights. Florence is filled charming narrow streets that lead to amazing things. The streets are especially beautiful at night. I'll be sure to post some pictures (in color) in the future.

  1. Cool (and smart) composition James, the tower is amazing, but I wouldn't know how to photograph it with all these elements.
    Beautiful BW! ;-)

  4. I like the monochromes, keep them coming. My eyes immediately went to the bar sign, which I think would stand as a subject on it's own. If you want to keep the focus on the tower, you might want to crop the bar sign out.

  6. Your versatility is so impressive! One feels your deep and genuine appreciation and excitement for the world and all it has to offer through your photographs. I do like the BAR sign. It provides an elemental tension, yet balances the white in the background around the tower and my eyes keep moving back and forth through the space. Am very excited to be following along!

  10. Great shot! With all the different elements it could have been "busy" but everything is so balanced there is no competition, just collaboration. I am so glad you take vacations!

  11. It's a stunning shot, James. (I did have the same thought as Woody about the bar sign, but I rather like it as part of an old-new contrast story).
