An American Bench

Balboa Island, Newport Beach, Ca

I found this bench on one of the little boat docks I pass by on my evening walks.
The flag is missing some stars and maybe some stripes but it has the moon shining through.
The last time the American flag had just twenty stars was 1819. Each star represents a state so the stars have multiplied over the years. Now there's talk of creating a fifty first state called "South California" which would include Orange County. Then I'd really be from SoCal. :)

This photo was inspired by my blogger friend Malyss. She posts photos of interesting benches everyday. Now whenever I see a bench I think of her.

  2. Perfect or not, it's a great bench.
Really? Dividing California? Interesting thought. Then the San Franciscans wouldn't have to associate with Los Angelinos. They'll be so relieved. LOL
    Love your photo, James.

  4. The publication of photos of benches in a blog or a newspaper is what's known as : Bench Press

Can't get much more american than that one... I'm surprised it wasn't painted red, white, and blue though...

  12. Love your POV on this shot James. What a peaceful looking place, so still. You've captured it beautifully, and I'm not even talking about the bench. That's just pure bonus.

  13. This is the first I've heard of splitting CA up! Reaaaaally? Nice shot, James.

I actually came over because Elisa from Argentina is in a panic asking where your Weekend Reflections site is. And lo and behold, I too find it down. Are you planning to start a new Weekend Reflections or have you had enough? If the former, how will we find you? I've signed up for follow-up comments.

  14. That is such a unique bench! I wonder where the owner found it or if it was custom made? I love the way you can see through it. The American flag is really a good looking flag, I think. But I'm kinda glad they didn't paint it...
