Down and Out in Paris

For me Paris is a fun and wonderful city but that's not the case for everyone. This couple was trying to warm themselves by the steam coming up from the Metro across the street from the Louvre. It might have seemed more cozy and comfortable if it wasn't raining. I hope they found a place to stay before the really cold weather came.

  1. Sadly as in any city. But a great shot James.

  2. Luis is right - as in any big city these days! Certainly when you look at that shot of Seattle on my post for today, the last thing you think about is hungry people trying to sleep, trying to stay warm, but they're there almost every direction you look. And the violence has greatly increased in the past year. Sad times, but the photos are still magnificent. Have a lovely evening, James! Oh, if you have Picasa you might look down at the bottom of the screen and you will see the word collage and it gives you step by step directions and there are several different ones you can use. Oh, geez! Me giving you photography instructions!! Time for me to think about going to bed!!

  4. Very powerful. The world is like this; some people are shiny happy and warm going about busily, then the other side of things; those living in despair, darkness and unprotected. Your image depicts this tragic duality.

  5. The concept of a wet night really changes when you see this. Paris was the first place (many years ago) that I actually saw people sleeping on the street (under part of a cardboard box) . . . but not the last.

  6. Great shot James, I hope they are okay after all snow these days, it's really cold, I hope they have found some shelter.

  7. A perfect shot with very nice reflections!
Unfortunately, there are more and more people living in the streets in France!
The smoke or fog on the right gives a strange mood to the scene!
    Thanks for sharing;o)

  8. This is the kind of picture that should be shown to ask people to help them; This picture tells much more than any long speech..

  11. Really incredible photo. Were you using a tripod? So much atmosphere with the steam, people, lights and shapes.

  14. This situation seems to be a scene with the movie.
    Loneliness and love...

The various feelings seem to be scattered in the town.

    The fantastic night view.

    Thank you.
