An Old Bake Oven

I've noticed these interesting domed brick structures sticking out of some of the very old buildings in this part of the country. I guessed that they were some type of oven and I was right. One of these days I'll try to find more information about them. If you look closely you will see that the bricks on the ground change at the little gate on the right. That's where I stood to take the photos for my October 7TH post "The Space Between Two Buildings".

  1. What a marvelous and interesting capture, James! Of course, I live in one of the younger parts of our country, but I've never seen an oven like this except in Europe! Fascinating! Hope you're having a great week!

  4. I love the two little knots on the door! :)
We have a lot of ovens in France, still used today. In Nice , they're used to prepare a very special food called Socca, that can be eaten only here..

  5. Another great shot, James - plus I like the background info about the location of your other shot! You really do have the ideal surroundings/material for amazing black and whites. One could spend a whole day with this oven and the surrounding brickwork...there is just so much texture and mood to explore...

  9. It's tantalising that you talk about the oven but don't explain the bows on the gate!

  11. I like all the organic stone and brick shapes in this sepia, on top of the round oven shape in the middle of all the right angles.
