"Stay Away From the Light"

It recently dawned on me that I almost never take pictures at night. So last night I went for a walk and brought my camera. This photo is the space between two old buildings in the main street area of Newtown.

It's been almost 30 years since I saw the movie "Poltergeist" but "Stay away from the light" popped into my mind.

  1. I seem to be tempted into that back light...

Convergence of contrastive colors is attractive.

  2. That light draws me too, to the end of the alley. Brilliant shot. Greetings from North Africa (Jo)

  6. The low viewpoint makes the shot.

  10. Dear James,
Fantastic capture!I love that light and the perspective, I remember the movie, but I think I'm so enchanted by the light I would go ahead! :)

  12. Love the low angle on this shot. Really accentuated the long mysterious tunnel effect. All forbidding with the angular shadows leading back to that little ray of hope, or a warning. We know not which. the patterns of the stone are also gorgeous. I'm looking forward to tagging along on more night shoots with you!

  16. Hello James.

Thank you for your welcome on PICTURES JUST PICTURES . I'm certainly glad to be back in action - though it seems to me the new system on blogger reduces the quality of photos too much and yesterday, second day back, I had to change my photo because blogger insisted on cropping the picture from landscape to portrait, which meant only the middle third showed. Very frustrating! Have you had any troubles like this? - any advice would be truly welcome.

I really like this picture - but I like nearly all your photos. You are one of my favourite photographers. And, by chance, I see parallels and contrasts with the one I posted yesterday

    http://picturesjustpictures.blogspot.com/2010/09/from-under-bridge-and-into-light.html

    - a coincidence which has interested and pleased me. (Though in mine, I am going into the light and here you are warning to 'stay away from it'.)

I'm interested in your new header too. I thought I remembered this photo from way back but, in my memory, the horses and cart are going in the other direction. I wouldn't make a very good witness!

    Best wishes

    Lucy
