Suicidal Tendencies

These girls were trying to get people to give them money in Philadelphia last year. The girl with the guitar in her hands seems to have a lot on her mind and the other one looks like she has a sore foot. What surprised me was her hat. "Suicidal Tendencies" was one of the relatively local punk bands that I used to see when I was a teen. They were pretty big in Southern California but I never imagined that I would see a girl on the other side of the country wearing an S.T. hat nearly 30 yrs later. It seemed like they had a glamorized view of street life and they were playing "make believe" in other words they looked like posers or wannabes. I hope I'm right.

I just checked and found out that Suicidal Tendencies is still around. I was never a fan of them but they used to play on the same bill with bands that I liked.

  1. This photo seems haunting to me. Perhaps because of the b & w but I think more so because of the two sitting on a street corner...

  2. A nice one, I really like the black and white. Yeah, they look like posers -- well-fed and bored, lacking that hungry alertness of true street people....

  3. "The Look". Yeah I remember that look. I think this is really great and glad it is in black and white.

  4. I have never heard of Suicidal Tendencies. Very interesting. Love this picture and it being in black and white so adds to it. :) I love the dog just ignoring everything :)

  5. Those two are like the wall behind: pretty flowers in an ugly surrouding..Maybe they read Jack Kerouac, and want to do "like if..." being on the road..
    Interesting picture!

  7. I agree with your 'poser/wannabee' sentiment . Where we live now there are sooo many people who take up this role and it gets really old. (and entertaining, too, i must admit). I'm not generally a huge fan of people photos, but this one really works. That facial expression the girl in the front has is classic. Great in black and white, too!

  8. It's a great B&W shot, with disturbing (to me) overtones. Hope they were just wannabes.
Sorry my Peeps post made you ill James!

  9. This is a great snippet of street life James. Although I agree that they look like posers. They do look a bit too well fed and clean to be true street urchins :) This is great in B&W, and I love the dog! Kathy

  10. They carry a lot of baggage, no doubt. The black and white reveals the heavy mood so well.

  11. They will be street people until Mom comes by in her Lexus and picks them up.

  12. Kickin' it back to the 60's early 70's ...flowers on the wall behind them. Neat capture and wouldn't look near a good in color...black and white a great choice. Gives it more of a seedy look - though I agree with questioning the authenticity of the parties involved. Then there is the dog - he looks pretty well kept...a least as it appears in black and white. Like you I have my doubts.
