Suicidal Tendencies

These girls were trying to get people to give them money in Philadelphia last year. The girl with the guitar in her hands seems to have a lot on her mind and the other one looks like she has a sore foot. What surprised me was her hat. "Suicidal Tendencies" was one of the relatively local punk bands that I used to see when I was a teen. They were pretty big in Southern California but I never imagined that I would see a girl on the other side of the country wearing an S.T. hat nearly 30 yrs later. It seemed like they had a glamorized view of street life and they were playing "make believe" in other words they looked like posers or wannabes. I hope I'm right.

I just checked and found out that Suicidal Tendencies is still around. I was never a fan of them but they used to play on the same bill with bands that I liked.

The Pelican Brief Encounter

Clear the runway for the cutest pelican in Huntington Beach California. This pelican was being photographed by a group of people several yards away but when she saw me it was love at first sight (for both of us) and she flew right over to me. We spent some time admiring each other and then we went our separate ways. I'll never forget Peggy the Pelican.

Still Living in the Days of Yore

This is the same photo of the Amish farm boy that I posted the other day in color at Newtown Area Photo. I think a scene like this should be seen in black and white too.

Reflections of Paris

I've become obsessed with Paris. Most of you probably know that it's my favorite city. Unfortunately I don't have that many pictures of it. I think this is from my first time there. I took it from inside The Tuileries Gardens and you can see the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. I just wish that I was a better photographer back then and captured the reflection of the golden top

This is my Weekend Reflections photo. If you would like to see other Weekend Reflections posts please click here or scroll down and click the big Weekend Reflections badge at the bottom of this page 11AM Fri thru 11PM Sun EST.

Lost in Prague

I have a really good sense of direction and I rarely get lost but I did get lost a couple of times in Prague. It was only for a short time and I didn't mind because I ended up finding this place.

Up Against the Wall

A study of simplicity. It's just some sleeves that were stacked against an old wall at a rail yard. They look like they're used to cover something.

Cornucopia of Prague Reflections

This is one of the windows at the Church of the Holy Saviour of Clementinum. This window is spilling over with views of the beautiful interior of the church as well as the reflections from outside. It might seem a little busy at first but if you look for a short while you should be able to distinguish what is inside and what is reflected. Some of the reflections include the Charles Bridge tower with clouds above, some of the bridges statues can be seen as well. The building to the right of the tower I think is part of the Church of St. Francis. I'm not sure if the beautifully detailed fence is inside or out but on the right you can see the reflection of the magnificent door with diamond shaped patterns. The longer you look the more you will see.
-Added note I took this picture from the outside of the church looking in, sort of. There was an open pair of large old doors(they can be seen in the reflection) and just passed those doors was this modern glass door/window with the reflection. That's why it seems like I was inside of the church. :)

Soft Babbling

This is water running over rocks but with the soft focus and reflected sunlight it reminds me of fire.

A Broken Windmill in Holland

This is The Volendam Windmill in Holland Township New Jersey, USA. Windmills like this are used to grind wheat into flour. This one is being used as a museum. I happened to be driving by so I stopped and took a picture. I read that it's 60 feet(18.3 meters) high and before it was damaged it's arms stretched 68 feet (20.7 meters) from tip to tip.

1st Blog Anniversary! Distorted Reflection

One year ago today, I made my first blog post. Blogging has been a true God-send for me. Late in 2008 I was really bored and I wanted a hobby, but I couldn't think of anything that I liked to do. So Vicki suggested that I pray about it. I did just that and a few months later I started blogging as a way to encourage myself to take pictures of my new surroundings in Texas. At the time I had no interest in photography. It didn't take long to realize that God answered my prayer in a big way. I love photography now! Thank you, dear Lord! I would also like to thank all of the wonderful people that I've met through blogging, Cezar and Léia in particular. Early on I became discouraged with blogging and seriously considered quitting, but it was their encouraging daily comments that helped through that tough time.

Now take a close look at me in the photo and try to guess how tall I am. :)

Schloss Mirabell Reflections

This is the reflection of The Mirabell Palace in Salzburg Austria. The reflection is in a pool of water with a Pegasus statue in the Mirabell Gardens. It's really a beautiful place and I was fortunate to stay in a hotel just a few hundred feet away. The curve of the pool can be seen in the bottom corners.

Snapshots from my Favorite City

Paris has beautiful skies to go with it's beautiful buildings and statues. I took these behind the Cathedral of Notre Dame, except for the top photo. The top one was taken from one of the many wonderful bridges in Paris. I can't wait to go back later this year.

Don Giovanni

A sign for a marionette theater

Il Commendatore statue at the Estate theater
The world premiere of Mozart's Don Giovanni was at the Estates theater in Prague in 1787. The theater is still around and so is the opera in one form or another.
