Chasing the sunset (Warm Reflections)

Palm trees on Lido Isle, Newport Beach
A surfer near the Newport Beach pier

The sunset seen from the end of the Huntington Beach Pier.
I just wanted to post a few of the pictures that I took yesterday and today. We are back in Orange County. It feels strange to be wearing short sleeves in the winter after all of the cold weather in Newtown.
I hope these pictures look okay since they are right out of the camera and this monitor is tiny.

It rarely rains in O.C. but as luck would have it, it's going to rain every day next week. So it should be interesting taking pictures. Thankfully I already took a bunch, I just hope they're good.
The top picture isn't a reflection but the bottom two have reflections. I took some reflection pictures last night that are really cool. I just hope the turn out okay.

  1. I like the image and the reflection of the surfer. He may just be a little rigid to ride that wave all that much further.

Interesting for you to be back in your old stomping grounds.

  2. Shorts! No fair James. Well it almost hit 50 today in South Jersey. Good photos again. The wave cuts a nice diagonal and the reflections of the sun on the water are great. Your timing was perfect.

One time I was driving a rental car from Santa Barbara to LA in the rain and I was passing all the natives (they don't know how to drive in the rain). I wished I had a big sign on the back that said: "Congratulations, you've just been passed by a New Jersey driver."

Have a nice trip -- rain or not.

  6. Welcome back to O.C.! Isn't it great! I was out in the desert today hiking around Palm Springs in Indian Canyons again...no long sleeves needed there either!

  10. Back to the roots?
a surfer is the typical picture we have of California when we think of it. And the Beach Boys songs!
your pictures are great and warm; I feel less alone, being almost the only one to show blue skies! Ü
I hope you enjoy your trip!
    hugs to Vicki!

  12. Great photos. I like seeing warm activities when it's cold outside.

The composition of the first one is fantastic.

  13. The surfer is getting a good ride. I hear there are giant waves in Hawaii this week. I lived in southern CA many years and am familiar with the places in your photos. I've only been here in NE two years so it is fun to see the sights in your pictures. Enjoy your week.

  14. Familiar areas all ;-)
So ... you're here in Southern California just in time for the wave of El Nino storms. If we can believe weather predictions, we'll get more rain in the next week than we've had in the past few years ... all in one fell swoop! The photo of sunset off the pier is magnificent and makes me think I should take a walk at sunset once the weather clears. Hope you enjoy your visit.
    Hugs and blessings,

  18. Far too cold to surf here, and that orange is truly dazzling.

  19. Probably Palm trees may reflect in sky.

Because it reflects back the color of the beautiful sea.

  20. Your pictures are super but I'm curious as to what is next to the surfer's board.
Have a lovely time in the sun, while the snow piles up here.
    Sunny :)

  21. Hi James,
    Thanks for your kind comment.
I'll try and explain what I meant...if you look to the right of the surfboard, almost right next to it in the crest of the wave, there looks like there is an object in the water. It doesn't appear to be part of his surfboard and I noticed it more when I enlarged the picture.
    Enjoy the sunshine.
    Sunny :)

  23. Welcome back home! I see you are taking a full advantage of the pre-storm for some wonderful oh-so-So-Cal photos. Do you think the mean age of surfers is getting higher or is it just the spots/time of day that makes it seem so?
