PECO

Every month I write a check to PECO (The Philadelphia Electric Company). I hope they don't decide to use some of the money to refurbish this old building that sits on the Delaware River near Philadelphia's harbor. I like it just the way it is.
I added some monochrome to the top photo. Actually I wanted to make these pictures black and white but when I tried it they looked more like charcoal sketches than photographs.

Hitting a Brick Wall

This building looks old but I got the feeling that there are some really cool apartments inside. Do you see the stick puppet in the window?

This is the top of an old abandoned warehouse near the harbor

I don't remember what it's used for but this old house is nestled between the skyscrapers. I love staircase, and I would love to take a look inside someday. I knew there where lots of brick buildings around here, but I didn't realize how many. Going through my photos it amazes me how many brick buildings there are.

I think I'll wrap up the brick series for now with these Philadelphia bricks.

Back to the Bricks

I think this is an interesting brick pattern up here.

I was used to seeing sidewalks made only from cement before I moved to this part of the country. The sidewalk matches the building.
Trenton is the capital of New Jersey and it's closer to my house than either New York or Philadelphia. When I go to New York I drive to the Trenton train station then ride from there to New York's Penn Station. I took these pictures near the New Jersey capitol building in Trenton.

A Jetty in Newport Beach

Looking toward Corona Del Mar as a boat sails by.

I'm interrupting the brick series for a post that is eligible for the Watery, Outdoor and ABC Wednesday memes. I took these pictures with my old camera on and near a jetty in Newport Beach, California just before I moved out of state. There are many things that I don't miss about Orange County, but this is one of the things that I do miss.

NYC Red

I live a half hour from Philadelphia and less than two hours from New York City.
So how about some Manhattan bricks?
I couldn't decide which view I liked best for the building on the bottom so I posted both.

Not by the Hair of my Chinny Chin Chin

These are two pictures of the same block in a residential neighborhood in Philadelphia. The top picture is the first part and the second picture is most of the rest of the block. A few houses in the middle are missing from my pictures, but every house on this block is made of bricks. There are so many old buildings in Philadelphia that are made out of bricks. It reminds me of The Three Little Pigs. Bricks are made to last.

Hitting the Bricks

I usually don't have a clue what I'm going to post up until the last moment. I have so many pictures it's hard to decide. The Chinatown series made it a little easier because it narrowed my choices. Now I'm starting a brick series. I imagine that lots of old salty sea dogs have done business inside of these bricks that I found near Philadelphia's harbor.

Exit the Dragon

This is the end of the Chinatown series. I will still post Chinatown pictures in the future, but not exclusively.
I hope you enjoyed it.

The Entrance to Chinatown

I took these pictures on different days and on different sides of the street. One day was sunny, the other was cloudy. I don't know anything about this impressive structure, but I like it's wonderful detail and colors. I hope to put together some closer views of it.
I just noticed the lady is hiding her face from my camera in the bottom photo. :-)

Don't Mess with the Zhongs (Faces of Chinatown)

The Golden Boy (Faces of Chinatown)

I never saw the movie with that title, but for some reason that's what popped into my head when I saw this interesting little boy sitting there floors above the ground in what looked like a cage. He looks content in the first picture I took, but when I came back he was no longer happy as you can see in the middle picture.

I took more pictures of this red building I plan to post them in the future.

Chairman Mao and Marilyn Monroe?

I was walking by this barred window when I saw the prints on the wall inside. Chairman Mao and Marilyn Monroe? Now that's a shocker. Can you tell if I'm right about who's on the prints? It's hard to tell for sure due to the angle and the glare.

I was trying to capture the grittiness that can be found in Chinatown in the bottom two pictures.

Urban Life in Chinatown

I love Philadelphia's Chinatown. I can't wait to see NYC's and LA's Chinatowns. To bad I didn't take pictures when I was in San Francisco's Chinatown.
Here is a little color burn effect.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Chinatown Fashion

When I saw this fascinating looking woman emerge from the depths of the "Asia Supermarket" with a cup of bubble tea in her hand. I wondered what other strange and wonderful things awaited me at the bottom of the stairs. I had Alice in Wonderland type visions dancing in my head. Then I went down the stairs and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I wish I would have just left this place to my imagination.
For some reason she reminds me of Mary Poppins.

A Happy Face inside a Dark Doorway (Faces of Chinatown)

I saw a side door open at the little Lee How Fook restaurant in Chinatown, so I stuck my camera in the doorway and snapped quick a picture. I was walking away when I noticed the delightful man smiling in my view finder . He must have seen my camera and instinctively posed. I went back to ask him his name, but he couldn't speak English.

Philadelphia Quick Snap

Just walking down the street then suddenly I had an impulse to take a quick picture. I captured some old, some new, some green and some blue.
